General Survey Program FAQ

We’ve moved our surveys on-line this year to our new industry leading Qualtrics platform.

If you’re on PSMJ’s email lists, you might have already received the direct links to our surveys from PSMJSurveys@PSMJ.com or jstoodley@psmj.com. (Subject contains “Direct Survey Links”)

If you haven’t already received direct links from us, go to our participation page, provide your contact info, and we’ll email you secure links to the surveys you select.

The online surveys allow you to save your progress and return to complete them at your own pace.

When you’re done entering your data, just click Submit and we’ll email you a pdf copy of your survey data and confirmation that we’ve received the submission.

There is NO COST to participate in any of our benchmarking surveys. In fact, participants receive a free Excel-based benchmarking tool for each survey in which they participate. They also receive a 50% discount on the resulting pdf report, if they choose to purchase.

Every firm is different, and it depends on how you have your data organized. For some firms it only takes a few hours or less, for others it could be a few days. The first year is more of a time investment as you organize your information to fit our data collection standards – but it’ll be well worth it! As a thank you for participating, we give you a free benchmarking tool that’ll save you hours or even days on your benchmarking process. And you’ll receive 50% off the full pdf report if you choose to purchase.

Yes! Our survey consultant partners have been completing A/E firms’ Financial Surveys for years and they’d be happy to set up a time to discuss details and rates. Please contact us and we’ll set up a consultation.

We don’t currently offer this service for our Compensation Surveys, but if you’re interested in having us complete the comp surveys for you, please let us know at:  PSMJSurveys@psmj.com.

Yes, we're offering the survey for 2023. We hope you’ll participate!

Participants receive a free Excel-based benchmarking tool with key survey results and a 50% discount on the full benchmarking report pdf for each survey in which they participate. Perks and production updates will be sent to the primary survey contact a few months after data collection.

Participant pricing is $350 per report (vs. $787 per report).

This 50% participation savings is by far the best pricing we offer.

Participants also receive the best price on our annual Compensation Suite subscription ($1,597)

 

Please note: Participant pricing applies only to the specific survey title and year in which you participated and cannot be combined with any other offer or bundle. For example, 2023 Financial Performance Survey participants would receive participant pricing only for the 2023 Financial Performance Benchmark Report.

The Benchmark Reports are 250- 650-page pdfs that cover all data collected from the survey – they report metrics in table form, by peer groups.

The Survey Benchmarking Tools are Excel-based tools that include key metrics from the surveys in a more interactive format, allowing you to pull up peer group data with the click of your mouse. They compare your firm’s data to the peer groups you’ve selected. We offer an abridged version that participants receive for free, and a full version that contains more metrics from the survey results. The Survey Tools are designed to easily start off your benchmarking process with key metrics.

Please note: These tools are separate from PSMJ’s Salary Equity Tools, which are exclusively provided in PSMJ workshops and through consulting engagements.

The Bonus & Benefit Plans Survey Report pdf ($350 for participants) will be available in April.

Each free participant Benchmarking Tool will be available approximately a week or two after the report publication dates.

After you submit your data, you’ll gain access to a pre-order page with the participant pricing ($350 each vs. $787 each). We’ll also email reminders later in the season.

You can submit your data to PSMJ directly through the online surveys. When you’re done entering your data, just click submit and you’ll receive a pdf copy of your survey data and immediate confirmation that we’ve received the submission.

Yes! You can download a pdf copy of your survey data right after you submit your survey. And in a few months when the survey results are published, we’ll also send you an Excel version of your results that you can use to plug your data into your free benchmarking tool.

Yes! No need to finish in one sitting — the links we email you for the online surveys allow you to return to the surveys (wherever you left off) and complete at your own pace.

Yes. They can be uploaded to our secure portal (via the instructions included in the Finish Here tabs).

No. Unaudited, internally-generated data is sufficient for the Financial Survey.

Do not report employee data for divisions of your firm that are not involved in providing professional services.

If you have branches or subsidiaries, use consolidated figures. Exclude joint ventures except in the amount of revenue and expenses accruing to your firm from these efforts. If you are owned by a parent firm that owns several independent professional services firms, report only your results. If you are a partnership, treat partners as if they were employees of the firm.

Only the survey team will have access to the survey files. We don’t share your data with anyone (even the PSMJ staff) and we never sell or share our lists – the information you provide is ONLY used for the purpose intended – to provide compiled benchmarking results for the A/E industry.

We pride ourselves on confidentiality. The information you provide is held in strict confidence. Assigning a firm number to each firm allows us to separate the data from the firm name when the data is processed. We never publish single-firm data, only compiled results.

PSMJ assigns a unique Firm Number to each participating firm – your data is separated and analyzed by your firm number only for confidentiality.

If you’re new to the Survey Program, we’ll assign a temporary firm number.

After we receive your completed survey, we’ll assign a permanent number that will be used for all future surveys.

Your firm number is the same as prior years.

If you or a team member opted in with a different/unrecognized email address, you’ll be automatically assigned a temporary firm number.

PSMJ will update the survey to your usual firm number after survey submission.
