John Doehring is Executive Leader of Advisory Services and Training at PSMJ and is responsible for the company’s consulting and in-house training business worldwide. In addition to leading a diverse team of highly qualified professional consultants, trainers, and experts, John himself advises A/E/C firms in the areas of business strategy and planning, marketing and growth, organization development, and operations transformation. He has successfully led dozens of strategic business planning and operational improvement engagements for professional services firms of all types, sizes, and market focus. John’s passion is helping leaders to plan for the future, grow their business, and make more money.
In addition to his role as a strategic consultant, John is also known as an accomplished speaker, author, and educator. John has spoken to client firm and trade association audiences across the nation at the national, regional, state, and local levels –including ACEC, AIA, SMPS, SAME, NSPE, and SEA.John’s writings have been published in numerous trade journals and websites, and for several years he’s published his own popular newsletter and blog –the Joltwire. John is the author of two books:Fast Future! Ten Uber-Trends Changing Everything in Business and our World (2015), and The BackPocket! Business Plan: Outrageously Simple Business Planning for Extraordinary Business Results (2014).
Before launching his management consulting career, John was Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer at Geologic Services Corporation (and later GSC|Kleinfelder), where he lead the firm’s planning, growth and organization improvement efforts.Prior to his involvement in the A/E/C industry, John co-created and developed Windward Petroleum, Inc., a private equity financed consolidation in wholesale petroleum distribution, where he managed the rapid acquisition-related growth of the company. Before Windward, John worked for sixteen years at Exxon Company USA, and served there as a petroleum production and exploration geologist, regional environmental business unit manager, and specialty products sales manager and business consultant.
John holds a BS in Geology and a BA in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin, and earned his MBA in Management and Marketing from New York University’s Stern School of Business. He is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) with the Institute of Management Consultants, and is an active member of the National Speaker’s Association (the organization for professional speakers), and the World Future Society.
