Getting Paid: 10 Steps That Can Save Your Assets

A/E firms—large and small—know the challenge of getting paid by clients. To make matters worse, staying on top of your accounts receivable is not merely a cash-flow issue—it’s also a matter of liability.

The scenario goes something like this: you press a client for payment, and get your answer in the form of a threat or even an actual lawsuit. A client who, for whatever reason, has no intention of making that last payment will claim there were errors in your plans and specifications. These countercharges are often inflated and are used to make your collection efforts so costly that the idea of writing off that last invoice starts to look good.

As a service to the design community, PSMJ and the Design Professional unit of XL Group periodically provide free practice management webinars. We hope you’ll join us for Getting Paid: 10 Steps That Can Save Your Assets Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. ET.

We’ll give you 10 proven techniques that will speed your collections without jeopardizing your client relationships or risking a liability lawsuit.

·         Recognize the importance of developing a collection strategy and consistently following it.

·         Learn simple techniques to improve your accounts receivable—before, during and after the project.

·         Explore how your contract can help you get paid and how you can prevent payment problems related to scope creep.
