Gulf Coast Rebuilding Fund
After the devistating destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina on August 24, 2005, PSMJ Resources spearheaded a unified effort of the design and construction community to raise funds to help rebuild areas of the U.S. Gulf Coast. Named the Gulf Coast Rebuilding Fund, Inc., the 501(c)3 organization was established in Massachusetts in 2005 as a special design and construction industry charity focused on the long-term rebuilding needs of communities damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The fund's original goal was to raise $10 million to be donated specifically for use in the planning, redesign and permitting work necessary to start the rebuilding, a goal far exceeded by the industry's generous contributions!
As advisors to CEOs of many top design firms around the world, PSMJ was in a unique position to unite many facets of the design and construction industries. Frank and his wife Joan began the effort by appealing to leaders in the design and construction industry and by giving a personal donation of $10,000. In addition, PSMJ employees donated time and money to the fund as well, ensuring the fledgling fund would be successful.
Contributions to the fund mounted very fast and donations came from a multitude of individuals and firms that are making real sacrifices to help. Donations collected through the fund continue to be dispersed specifically to the most devastated Gulf Coast communities to start the burdensome process of applying for funding to rebuild what was lost. The Gulf Coast Rebuilding Fund seeks the support of design and construction industry associations and the trade media by asking them to spread the word to members and readers to unite in this rebuilding effort.
What We've Accomplished
In January 2011, with the help of many of our industry's most influential firms, Joan and Frank flew down to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi for the dedication of the Bay St. Louis Community Hall. Please take a few minutes to witness the success story you helped to create and watch the short video below.
